For the first time in 48 years, we were saddened to see that the Bread and Honey Festival was unable to celebrate the beginning of summertime with Streetsville this year.
However, the Bread and Honey Festival committee spent this past weekend giving back to the community by supporting Feed Mississauga. “Although it was sad that we couldn’t actually celebrate our 48th Bread and Honey Festival, it still turned to be an amazing day giving back to our community!” said Sandy Pitts, Bread and Honey committee member.
Dale D’Sousa a local caterer from Two Guys and a Grill prepared meals at the Vic Johnston Community Centre for people in need. Dale also baked fresh bread in the morning and put together small gift bags. The flour and individual honey packages were graciously donated by Ardent Mills. Some of the gift bags were included with the meals and the rest were delivered to past and present committee members in the area, long time patrons and supporters, and to some of our seniors.
In addition to the Feed Mississauga initiative, the Bread and Honey Festival also hosted local performers, Matt Zaddy and Heather Christine to play for the staff and seniors at the Credit River Residence. The seniors enjoyed watching and listening from their balconies and windows. There was even a small group of seniors who social distanced themselves outside in the parking lot. Bread and Honey was able to support this performance with support from the City of Mississauga’s Cultural Grant.
The Bread and Honey Festival is looking to continue a series of initiatives to support and give back to their beloved community this year!
We certainly missed having this nostalgic festival in Streetsville and cannot wait to have the festival back in the years to come.
